Most intensivists are employed as ‘staff specialists’, a salaried employee of the hospital. You may also be appointed as a ‘visiting medical officer’ (VMO), essentially a contractor to the facility. You may be paid at an hourly rate, or on a per-consultation basis in this case.
Who are my potential employers?
Your employment will most likely be in a state-funded public hospital, or a private hospital.
