Information on remuneration for Locum Doctors

Pay rates vary wildly from state to state, but these figures are what our candidates are paid (on average). Some employers allow you the choice to work as an employee or contractor.

  • Emergency Specialists (FACEM) $200-$250 per hour for day/evening shifts.
  • Senior (non-specialist) emergency doctors/GPs in Emergency $160-$220 per hour for day/evening/night shifts.
  • Emergency trainees (registrars) $90-$200 per hour for day/evening/night shifts – depending on training level, location, and responsibilities.
  • Anaesthetists (FANZCA) $2000-$3000 per day, on call – depending on the location.
  • Anaesthetic trainees/fellows $1500-$2000 per day, on call – depending on location, training level, and responsibilities.
  • Intensivists (fellowship varies) $2000-$3000 per day, on call – depending on the location.
  • Intensive care trainees/fellows $1500-$2000 per day, on call – depending on location, training level, and responsibilities.
  • General Practitioners $120-$150 per hour or at least 75% of billings.
